Today, March 9, 2022, Minister of Education and Science Serhii Shkarlet held online meetings with the Minister for Education of Ireland Norma Foley and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Ireland Larysa Gerasko.
"The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has garnered important support of the line ministries of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Italy, Greece and Poland in the fight against unprecedented aggression by russia. In connection with the unprecedented manifestation of
russian aggression and statements by the Republic of Ireland also condemning the actions of russia and expressing support for Ukraine, " Serhii Shkarlet emphasized.Apart from that, the Minister urged immediately:
To impose strict restrictions on educational and scientific activities of institutions and organizations of the aggressor country;
to prohibit access of scientific and educational institutions of russia, their employees and students of education of the aggressor country to international sources of funding, mobility programs, any forms of cooperation in the field of education and science;
to stop the implementation of joint educational, scientific, research programs and projects;
to suspend investment and grant support for the implementation of educational and research projects with the participation of representatives of the aggressor country;
review the policy of cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the russian federation, and relevant government agencies of countries that have supported the armed aggression against Ukraine.
The Minister for Education of Ireland assured of absolute solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people and Ukraine.
The Minister noted that additional places for children's education and working groups have already been set up in educational institutions to support and accompany them.
The Republic of Ireland stands ready to provide comprehensive assistance and every effort to provide the temporarily evacuated citizens of Ukraine with all necessary conditions, as well as to create jobs, including for teachers.
"Together with the Embassy of Ukraine, we will continue to work to support Ukraine and find ways to provide possible assistance to our citizens who were forced to leave the country due to the brutal russia’s aggression," Norma Foley stressed.
The Minister thanked for the support of Ireland and expressed hope for further assistance to the Ukrainian government in the process of restoring the educational and scientific infrastructure and the functioning of the educational and scientific sphere of Ukraine.
