Denys Monastyrskyy had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Citizen Protection of the Hellenic Republic

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Citizen Protection of the Hellenic Republic Panagiotis Theodorikakos.

Today, the ministers discussed online the issues related to the accommodation of

Ukrainian citizens in Greece, who are forced to seek refuge abroad due to the war. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Mary Akopian also took part in the meeting from the Ukrainian side.

Currently, there are more than 15,000 immigrants from Ukraine in the Hellenic Republic, of which more than 4,500 are children. The parties also focused on security measures for our citizens, cooperation of law enforcement agencies in order to prevent possible involvement of Ukrainians in human trafficking, their illegal employment, sexual exploitation of women and children, etc.

Denys Monastyrskyy asked to consider separately the possibility of temporary accommodation in Greece of family members of personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, including children whose parents are involved in repelling Russian aggression, as well as treatment and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian military.

The parties also discussed the critical humanitarian situation in blockaded Mariupol, where, in particular, a significant number of ethnic Greeks were staying. As of January 2022, according to the local Greek society, their community numbered up to 15,000.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine noted the dedication of the Consul General of Greece Manolis Androulakis, who had helped to remove Greek citizens and members of the Greek diaspora from the city, personally leaving Mariupol only on March 15.

In addition, Denys Monastyrskyy responded positively to the initiative of Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to personally accompany humanitarian aid to Mariupol, organized by the Greek Government in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The Greek side was voiced the needs of units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in particular, rescuers of the SES of Ukraine, in military equipment to strengthen their capabilities in dealing with destruction, restoration of damaged infrastructure, demining and more.

In turn, Minister Panagiotis Theodorikakos stressed on his solidarity with the people of Ukraine, expressing his conviction that it is categorically unacceptable to resolve any controversial international issues through war. The official noted that Greece was ready to take part in rebuilding the destroyed infrastructure of Ukrainian cities after the end of hostilities and achieving peace.
