European countries will work to create a common gas purchases platform. The initiative is also open to Ukraine.
The Minister of Energy German Galushchenko wrote about this on his Facebook page, referring to the conclusions of the European Council meeting on March 24-25.
The Minister noted that Europe is taking decisive steps to abandon the energy
resources of the aggressor state and plans to ramp up cooperation to ensure the energy security of the continent. And to create mechanisms of solidarity and compensation for energy resources procurement, so as not to depend on the supply from russia."We sincerely welcome this decision. After all, russian gas is a weapon, as we have repeatedly emphasized. And today this weapon KILLS innocent Ukrainian children! Together, we can resist aggression and ensure energy security on the entire continent," the Minister stressed.
Ukraine has significant capacity for natural gas storage - the largest underground storage facilities in Europe. In the Regional Energy Security Partnership (RESP) initiative, Ukraine proposes to use these underground storage facilities to create a strategic gas supply for European countries.
"Despite full-blown military aggression by russia, Ukraine continues to be a powerful and reliable partner of Europe in energy security. Joint purchase of gas and its storage in Ukrainian gas storage facilities will get rid of the dictatorship of the terrorist state and ensure a reliable supply of energy resources for the entire European continent," German Galushchenko said.
