Denys Shmyhal and Karl Nehammer discussed sanctions against russia and support for Ukraine

The most effective measures to stop russia are to impose strong sanctions and provide Ukraine with weapons. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stressed during a meeting in Kyiv with the Federal Chancellor of Austria Karl Nehammer.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister thanked Austria for the sustained support of

sanctions imposed by the EU. The PM also called for measures to prevent circumvention by russia of the sanctions already in effect.

"We consider that the sanctions should apply to all banks of the russian federation. An embargo should be introduced on trade with russia, including oil and gas as the core sources of filling the budget, from which the war and the genocide of Ukrainians is financed," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Apart from that, Denys Shmyhal encouraged Austria to help close the EU seaports for russian vessels, block and confiscate russian accounts in EU banks, stop issuing visas to russians and ban broadcasting russian TV channels as a source of spreading kremlin’s propaganda. Ukraine also calls for sanctions against all officials closely linked to the kremlin leader.

The Prime Minister thanked the Chancellor of Austria for his unwavering support of Ukraine, especially for humanitarian aid and the shelter for internally displaced persons.

"I believe that we will win the victory fast, and aftermath we will return to all the issues raised before the war. In particular, holding a joint economic forum," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Head of the Ukrainian Government expressed confidence that this forum will now be dedicated to the restoration of Ukraine and its European integration. The Prime Minister thanked Austria for its support in this direction, emphasizing that it is critical for Ukraine to be part of the European family.

Karl Negammer, for his part, said that Austria would back Ukraine and Ukrainian families. Austria supports and will continue to support the EU's sanctions policy.
