Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna called on the Energy Community and European leaders to mobilize financial resources for the immediate reconstruction of the liberated territories, including the restoration of energy infrastructure and energy supply.
"Such funding should already be used for reconstruction where the Ukrainian Government has regained control. Renovation work must begin as soon as possible, we cannot wait until the war is over, because people are starting to return to their homes," said Olha Stefanishyna in her address at a conference on April 11, in Vienna.
The event was organized by the Energy Community to discuss the security and
stability of the Ukrainian energy sector, as well as its post-war recovery. The Deputy Prime Minister noted the importance of the decision to synchronize Ukraine’s integrated energy system with the ENTSO-E continental European energy network, despite russia’s full-scale hostilities against Ukraine. The Ukrainian official stressed that this had been made possible both due to a set of reforms that Ukraine had introduced earlier, and real political leadership in Europe.
"Currently, we are planning further steps to unite the markets, which will ensure the commercial flow of electricity between Ukraine and the EU," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Olha Stefanishyna stressed that Ukraine remains committed to the implementation of the Green Deal agenda in Ukraine: "A number of initiatives regarding green recovery can be implemented now that we are developing plans to restore critical infrastructure, restore gas and electricity supplies."
Olha Stefanishyna paid special attention to the importance of expanding the embargo on energy resources from russia.
"A full embargo on gas and oil trade with russia remains one of the most difficult issues for the EU. But everyone should understand that while the EU is calculating the losses, our citizens are dying from such a step," said Olha Stefanishyna.
