No country in the world has such experience in managing the energy sector during the war as Ukraine, says German Galushchenko

Today, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko took part in the Energy Community Event on the Security and Stability of the Ukrainian Energy Sector during the War and its Post-War Revitalisation.

German Galushchenko stressed that the energy front had been operating since the first day of russia's invasion of Ukraine and had successfully withstood the extraordinary challenges posed by the war.

"No country in the world has such experience in managing the energy sector during

the war as Ukraine. I hope none of them will," German Galushchenko stressed.

However, the Ukrainian energy sector has suffered significantly from hostilities, including financially. Maintaining the liquidity of the Ukrainian energy market requires an effective solution, which is possible only if commercial trade in significant volumes of electricity between Ukraine's energy system and the EU energy system is allowed.

"It is important that Ukraine's energy system remains stable. Even in times of war. The Ministry, the regulator, the companies work around the clock and are fully coordinated. We have the necessary resources to stably provide consumers with energy. We also have reserves that can be used as needed. All this gives us confidence in the further sustainable functioning of the energy system," said German Galushchenko.

EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, in turn, praised Ukraine's work in ensuring energy stability during the war and called on everyone to show solidarity in support of Ukraine and prolong joint work to ensure the development of the energy sector.

One of the most important areas of support from international partners is to strengthen sanctions against russia.

"It is energy sanctions that are very painful for the aggressor, and our goal is to make it impossible for russia to generate energy revenues, which it "pours" into the war against Ukraine. We are grateful for the EU sanctions, including the 5th sanctions package and the forthcoming coal embargo. We appreciate the position of individual countries and companies that have imposed restrictions on the purchase of russian oil and gas on their own initiative. I am convinced that only a full embargo on russian energy will stop the financing of atrocities against Ukrainian citizens, including innocent children," German Galushchenko said. He also stressed that russia's nuclear terrorism is an issue that should remain on the agenda of all European countries and international organizations.

The Minister thanked for the unprecedented support of the Ukrainian energy sector by the international community.

"Throughout this extremely difficult time, we have felt very strong support from our partners. We receive not only political support, but also humanitarian aid, technical equipment, and so on. I am sincerely grateful to the European Commission, the Secretariat of the Energy Community, the Member States and the companies that support us in solidarity. Special thanks to the Energy Community for the fund you set up to support and restore Ukraine's energy sector. Thanks to you and the motivation of my colleagues, the energy front is holding firm and repelling the aggressor," German Galushchenko said, adding that Ukraine will continue to introduce world best standards and practices, strengthen energy security by implementing the principles of the European Green Deal.
