Dancers of the team of the Russian Olympic Committee, world champions and two-time European champions Victoria Sinitsina - Nikita Katsalapov are second after the rhythm dance at the team Olympic tournament in Beijing, scoring 85.05 points and providing our team with 9 points. Americans Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donoghue (86.56) are in the lead. In third place is the duo from Italy Charlene Guignard - Marco Fabbri (83.83).
Confident, soft and sweeping skating made our pair stand out in the warm-up before the performance. It seemed that it would not be difficult for athletes to confirm their level and class, but Olympic competitions are not ordinary starts. Tension, pressure and responsibility, no matter how abstracted the athletes are, make themselves felt. Most likely, this can
explain the mistake made by Nikita in the step track. As the skater later explained, the horse "drove" into the trail, and the judges had every reason to reduce the points, even if it happened by accident.- I tried, but I couldn't have saved that hook. It's a shame because the whole program was done quite well. It's a shame, because we skated with a very good attitude and everything seemed to be in control... Just a coincidence. No one should be blamed. It's a shame that we lost a lot of points. It's still a track, an element to the "level". Immediately after the ride, Vika told me: "Forget it", and we did not cycle, because there are still competitions ahead, - said Nikita.
The tension of the Olympic Games certainly leaves its mark on everything. During the warm-up, a small incident occurred between our American couple. Vika and Nikita walked on the element with their backs and did not see Madison and Zachary, as a result of which the duos almost collided. Nikita did not hold back, he said something to catch up.
- I don't remember what I said. In Russian or English, but he said something. It's just that today it goes on all day. I had a boil... Five pairs on the ice. Five minutes of warm-up. That's a lot... And here, apparently, the personalities passed ... But everything remains only on the ice. In life, in the personal, there is nothing like that. They're great guys," Nikita said.
After the rhythm dance, our dancers are in second place and the ROC team is also second with 17 points. The leaders - the US team - 20 points, the Italians - 14. They're third.
Clearly, none of the athletes wants to make mistakes. But in everything you need to look for pluses. There are personal competitions ahead, where you can fix everything, make no mistakes.
"Let's be calmer and more confident. And even control the super smalls even more," Nikita promised and confirmed that he and Vika were ready to skate the free program in the "teamman".
- We are ready, charged, feel great. We will, we want.
