Mark Kondratyuk of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team is third after the short program at the team Olympic tournament, scoring 95.81 points, and 8 points for the team. American Nathan Chen is in the lead (111.71), and Japanese Shoma Uno is in second place (105.46).
Team competitions in figure skating opened the program of the Olympic Games in Beijing. The first on the ice with short programs were singles. Olympic debutant Mark Kondratyuk fulfilled the minimum task, entered the top three after the first kind, purely skating his
program with two quadruples - a toe loop and a salchow in a cascade with a triple toe loop and a solo triple axel. One of the rotations of the 3rd level, the rest of the elements of the 4th."I did," Mark said after the ride. - As always, it was exciting, but probably when you don't get into it about the fact that this is the Olympic Games, it's much easier. When you just come out thinking it's the same start as any other -- the same ice, the same stands, the same elements, it's at least mentally easier. But no matter how you set yourself up, you don't completely remove the excitement, you just reduce its percentage. How much remains -- it's affected. In principle, both the jumps and other elements were not easy, some kind of filigree or whatever... Everything was on edge. But I'm glad it's done. Not perfect, but done...
To be honest, I thought there wouldn't be spectators in the stands. I've already set myself up for it. I go out, I look, there are not very many spectators, but they are there, and I was delighted," Mark said.
When asked what is the difference between team competitions and personal ones, because in fact athletes skate the same programs, Mark replied:
- There is a difference. A great desire not to let the other guys down, because they deserved to be here more and I would not like to interfere, - the athlete added.
After the first type of team tournament, the US team is in the lead, scoring 10 points. In second place is Japan - 9 points, in third place is the ROC team - 8 points. There were 9 singles players in the men's competition. An athlete from Ukraine Ivan Shmuratko did not perform due to illness. At the Games, the athlete tested positive for COVID.
