Ruslan Strilets: Ukraine is drafting a lawsuit against Russia at the UN International Court of Justice for full compensation for damage to the environment

Ukraine is preparing a lawsuit against Russia at the UN International Court of Justice to fully compensate for the damage caused to the environment. Acting Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets wrote on his Facebook page.

"Aggression encapsulates in everything! Uninvited guests, in order to achieve their aggressive goal, use missile and artillery strikes on Ukraine to harm our ecosystems and natural resources," Ruslan Strilets said.

According to preliminary estimates, the unprecedented environmental damage from the fire at the oil depot in the village of Kryachky, Vasylkiv district, Kyiv region, amounts to UAH 810 bln.

“Experts from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the State Ecological Inspectorate are currently working on accurate calculations. But I am sure that the amount will only increase. We add it to the general basket of damage caused by the occupiers.

I want to reassure Ukrainians that the current environmental situation is under control, your life and health are not in danger. And the occupiers will definitely pay for the damage to the environment of Ukraine and all crimes against our state!”,  Ruslan Strilets underscored.
