Mark Kondratyuk as a member of the team of the Russian Olympic Committee became the second in the free program at the team Olympic tournament in Beijing, scoring 181.65 points. The victory was won by Japan's Yuma Kagiyama (208.94). American Vincent Zhou rounded out the top three (171.44).
According to the regulations of the team Olympic tournament, five teams qualified for the final round of the competition - Canada, China, ROC, the USA and Japan, whose athletes presented arbitrary programs on the ice of the Capital Indoor Stadium. Following the
brilliant performance of Kamila Valieva, another of our debutants of the Olympic Games, European champion Mark Kondratyuk gave out his "rental of life".Svetlana Sokolovskaya's student skated the free skate with three quadruple jumps - a toe loop and two salchows, one of which was performed in a cascade with a 3rd toe loop. Plus two 3 axels, the second with a 2nd toe loop, not counting the rest of the jumping elements. Only in a cascade with the 3rd Lutz after the oiler, Mark twisted not three, but two turns on the salchow, as he jumped too close to the side and otherwise could not have.
- I made an oiler and if I jumped a triple at once, I would have driven into the side. And when I waited a little bit to go around, it was already risky to try triple there," Mark explained after the performance.
- Is that the only thing that didn't work out today?
- In terms of jumping elements, yes, in terms of skating, no.

- Did you seem tired by the middle of the program?
- Yes, I was walking at the end. I don't know why. Maybe fatigue. But I think, rather, subconsciously, I "saved" myself.
- That's why they slapped the ice so hard at the end?
- It was the most energetic part of the entire program. Anyway, in the second half for sure.
- You came here in the status of European champion, does it help, gives you confidence?
- I try not to think about it. I'm the same Mark I was a month ago, a year ago. Because somehow it's easier not to be driven about medals.
- A team tournament is a responsibility. How did you deal with that?
- I tried not to think it was the Olympics. Maybe, on the one hand, there was no feeling: oh yeah, I skated well at the Olympics! But on the other hand, it's just mentally easier when you think it's a normal start, and it's no different than any other. You come out calmer, and it's calming.
- Perhaps it helps here that there are not as many spectators in the stands as it usually happens at the Olympics?
- You know, it so happened in life that I had not been to the Olympics before, and I have nothing to compare it with. Which is. Better than none.
- Have you done your part in the team tournament, do you feel like a hero?
- I don't feel like a hero. I just feel like part of the team and a person who has coped and done almost the most of what he can bring to his team at the moment.

- If Nathan Chen were to skate the free skate today, would the situation be different now?
- I don't know what the situation is now.
- You're the second.
- I know that Yuma (Kagiyama – approx.) ran me. I didn't look at the scores, but I did see the rollup. He skated very well. Good job. And I didn't see Vincent. Consequently, if Nathan had skated, the result would have been different.
- Weren't you surprised by this replacement by the Americans?
- Probably not. I didn't think Nathan would skate two programs. I didn't know anything, but I assumed that Nathan wouldn't come to the free skate.
- Will participation in the team tournament help you in preparing for the personal one?
- Let's go a little bit from afar. I am just sincerely grateful that I had such an opportunity to skate in a team tournament. Most importantly, I have a chance to experience these Olympic emotions not twice, like most, but four. You can interpret it in different ways: what is difficult is more to roll. But I, on the contrary, perceive it as a unique opportunity, for which I am incredibly grateful. And about the personal tournament? I don't know if it will help me or complicate it. We'll see. You see, this is the first time I've been in this situation myself. I do not know...
- How many times would you like to be in the same situation? Five times?
- I'm afraid five, only as a spectator... I would like to talk to you back in Milan (the next Olympic Games will be held in Milan – approx.)

-
What can you say about the team? Cheering for your guys, Camila?
- On the first day of the team tournament, I sat in the box of our team and today I sat and supported Kamila. I'm happy to be on such a great team. Probably the best team.
- Kamila said that she was very worried about you?
- Of course I'm worried about the other guys. Really nervous. Mandrake is certain. But as for Camila, somehow you don't really care about her, to be honest...
When Mark finished answering questions, he turned around and ran into Yuma Kagiyama, who was walking to his reporters. "Great job," Mark said, and the boys congratulated each other with their fists...
After the second day of the team tournament, the team of the Russian Olympic Committee took the lead with 45 points. Three points behind the US team - 42 points, in third place the Japanese team - 39 points. Tomorrow, the free skating programs will be presented by greenhouses, dancers and girls. Who will be playing as part of the ROC team will be announced tonight.
