Kamila Valieva won the short program in the team tournament in Beijing and led the ROC team to the leaders

The champion of Europe and the Junior World Championship Kamila Valieva won the short program at the team tournament in Beijing, scoring 90.18 points for the rental. The second place was taken by the Japanese Wakaba Higuchi (74.73), the third - Madeleine Skizas from Canada (69.60). The victory of the student Eteri Tutberidze brought the ROC team to the leaders of the competition, leaving behind the teams of the Usa and Japan.

On the Olympic ice, the 15-year-old debutante of the Olympic Games came out with Olympic calmness. Perhaps the excitement was present, but outwardly it did not manifest

itself. Camila confidently did all the elements of the program, including the 3rd Axel, 3rd Flip and Cascade 3rd Lutz + 3rd Toe Loop, and skated so that all the skaters of the other teams gave our athlete a standing ovation.

After the competition, Kamila was interviewed for a long time by television crews. "Your press will have to wait, Kamila is very popular," the Chinese press manager in the mixed zone explained to me. And when Camila finally appeared in front of our journalists, a girl working in the television zone whispered: "I give her to you, Camila did a great job."

For voice recorders and phones, on which journalists record the comments of athletes, it took not one, but two trays, where all this was folded into several rows. The trays were placed on a table at a safe distance from the skater.

- Are you invincible? An American journalist asked Kamila.

The athlete did not immediately understand, asked: - Is this a question? - and laughed: - No, I will not answer?

- Could it be better today?

- To date, I have done everything possible that depended on me. I am very glad that I brought the maximum number of points for the short program to the team.

- How do you feel about the ride on the Olympic ice? Is it any other way?

- I am very happy to be at the Olympic Games. This arena is very inspiring and very pleasant to ride.

- What kind of gesture was in Kiss and Edge? (Camila folded her heart with her hands – approx.)

- If you remember, at the Channel One Cup, after the free program, when we sat and waited for the assessments, our whole team did this. And I decided, it's time to do it again.

- Did you watch the performances on the first day of the team tournament?

- A few memories again after the "Channel One Cup"... I don't know, it was very important to me that others feel supported. But the day before yesterday I was rooting only for Mark and for Maurice (Kvitelashvili – approx.) and after that I was so exhausted that I decided that I still have a short program ahead of me, and I would be rooting for the other guys remotely.

- Were you very worried?

- Yes. Because both our team and Maurice skate, so we spent a lot of nerves.

- More than yourself?

- For myself... You control yourself, and you can't control others, so you worry.

- All the athletes gave you a standing ovation. Agreeably?

- Of course, very nice. These are the same athletes who understand how to skate. They're still skaters. And it's very nice that everyone liked it. Not just the Americans, and Team Canada, others. It's really very inspiring.

- Karen Chen said that she could not even imagine how to perform such elements that you, Alexandra Trusova and Anya Shcherbakova do. Why? Why is there such a level of figure skating in Russia?

- I don't know how they train there, but for me and our girls this training is enough to do such difficult elements.

- Calmly tuned in to these competitions. Got enough sleep?

- Slept normally. I got up at 3 a.m. I went to bed at eight. That's all right.

- How do you like the Olympic Village?

- All right. I love it. We live in the same block with our team. We have a separate building. Of course, we cross paths. The girls and I cross paths every day because we ride together. And with other athletes too. The setting is wonderful. The atmosphere is just wonderful. To be honest, I still want to stay here.

- Despite all this covid?

- Yes.

- Why are Russian athletes so good in quadruple jumps?

- I've already answered this question. I don't know how other athletes train. I know how we train, and that training is enough for us to do quadruple jumps.

- Are you 15 years old, do you feel like the youngest athlete, the "youngest"?

- I don't think much of that. I go out, roll my programs, and there is no point in thinking about age. It's not going to do anything.

After the women's short program, the Russian Olympic Committee team became the leader of the competition with 36 points, ahead of the US team - 34 points and the Japanese team - 29 points.
