Ukraine became a member of the UN Environment Assembly Bureau for the first time

On March 2, 2022, Oleksandr Krasnolutskyy, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, was elected to the Bureau of the United Nations Environment Assembly. This decision was supported by its member states at the plenary session of the 5th session of the UN Environment Assembly UNEA-5.2.

This event is landmark, because for the

first time Ukraine will represent the Eastern European UNEP Group.

It should be noted that the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is the main UN body in the field of environmental protection. Its activities cover a wide range of issues and problems related to the environment and sustainable development.

The governing body of the UN Environment Assembly is the Bureau of the Assembly, which coordinates and determines the agenda of the regular session.

The Environmental Assembly meets every two years to set global environmental policy priorities, develop international environmental standards and approve a new Bureau’s composition.
