European Council for Nuclear Research terminates cooperation with the rf and abolishes observer status for russia

Yesterday, March 8, 2022, the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) decided to suspend cooperation with the russian federation and its institutions, as well as to abolish observer status for russia.

Founded after World War II, CERN aims to unite nations to develop science in the field of the peaceful atom. The russian federation's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine runs counter to the organization's values, so 23 CERN member states strongly condemned russia's actions

and expressed condolences over the casualties and humanitarian consequences of the aggressor's inhumane actions. The involvement of Belarus in the illegal use of force against Ukraine was also condemned.

As Ukraine is an associate member of CERN, and Ukrainian scientists are actively involved in many of the laboratory's experiments and activities, the Council decided to support and encourage their initiatives in the field of high energy physics.

It should noted that the EU Commission is suspending cooperation with russian organizations in the field of research, science and innovation.
