On March 24, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met in Kyiv with the President of the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia Jüri Ratas, the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece and the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.
Denys Shmyhal briefed the Speakers of Parliaments on the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people against the russian aggressor. The Prime Minister also tackled Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
"Ukrainians have long proved that they are part of the European family. For its part, the
Government is speeding up all bureaucratic procedures to put this on paper," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.In the course of the meeting, the Head of the Ukrainian Government called on Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to join rebuilding of Ukraine. In particular, the PM informed about the creation of appropriate funds: the Fund for Support of the Ukrainian Army and Humanitarian Aid, the External Debt Service Fund, the Fund for Restarting Small and Medium Business, the Fund for Reconstruction of Destroyed Infrastructure.
Apart from that, the sides also discussed the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
Denys Shmyhal dwelled on that Russia must bear responsibility for its war crimes.
Thus, the Prime Minister of Ukraine called for disconnecting all Russian banks from SWIFT, freezing all bank and correspondent accounts of Russia in civilized countries, including Russia in the FATF blacklist, imposing an embargo on trade in Russian raw materials (oil, gas, metals), closing ports of the EU Member States for aggressor vessels.
Denys Shmyhal praised the leadership of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, each citizen of these countries for the shelter of Ukrainians and all the help Ukraine receives.
