Maria Fefelova and Artem Valov won the ice dance competition at the opening stage of the ISU Junior Grand Prix series in Xi'an, China. The students of Alexei Gorshkov and Ekaterina Ryazanova scored 162.16 points. Italians Zoe Bianchi and Daniele Basile took silver with 154.25 points. The Canadian duo, Summer Khomik and Nicholas Bulow, who moved up from fifth place after the rhythm dance, took bronze with 143.68 points.
Russian Championship winners Maria Fefelova and Artem Valov competed in their first International Grand Prix! In Xi'an, the team led after the rhythm dance and maintained their lead after the free skate, scoring 99.06 points.
Despite being their debut, Maria and Artem skated both their new programs confidently and with inspiration. The programs were engaging and technically challenging. Their rhythm dance was choreographed by coaches Alexey Gorshkov and Ekaterina Ryazanova, and their free dance by French choreographer and coach Benoit Richaud.
