Taisiya Shcherbinina – Artem Petrov won the short program at the Federation Cup – the junior final of the Russian Grand Prix in Kaluga, with a score of 67.39 points, Zoya Kovyazina – Artemy Mokhov – second – 66.78, Sofia Diana Kasins – Alexander Bregey rounded out the top three – 66.01 points.
Silver medalists of the Russian Championship Taisiya Shcherbinina – Artem Petrov skated the short program quite confidently. As at the Russian Championship in Saransk, so in the final of the Junior Grand Prix, the Perm pair won this event, only six hundredths short of their personal season record.
Almost all elements of the program were in the plus zone - the twist, the
track and the death spiral were level three, the support and rotations were level four.A year ago, Taisiya and Artem already performed at the Central Sports Palace in Kaluga, where the Channel One Junior Cup was held, so the guys are familiar with the arena.
The athletes commented on their performance of the short program as follows:
Petrov: Everything worked out, but we know what we still need to work on. It feels like we were better prepared at the Russian Championship than we are now.
Shcherbinina: I think all factors play a role: the end of the season, and we are a little tired. Emotionally we are tired, tomorrow we will try to skate cleanly to show our best result and please the spectators.
The bronze medalists of the Russian Championship, debutants of the Junior Grand Prix Final Zoya Kovyazina – Artemy Mokhov in Kaluga gave a bright and confident performance of the short program, only slightly short of their personal best of the season.
Students of Philip Tarasov and Dmitry Zobnin, representing the school of Eteri Tutberidze, performed a triple twist to the fourth level (at the Russian championship this element was the third), a support and rotation to the maximum levels, a footwork and a death spiral to the third level.
After the performance, the guys admitted that in terms of emotions, it was probably one of their best performances, since by the end of the season the program had already been rolled out. The images of shamans in combination with interesting music look even more expressive.
Kovyazina: It feels like the skate was better here, definitely based on my internal feelings.
Mokhov: We have practiced this program more, the steps are working better, the approaches between the elements. Now we are more confident in the program, in the elements, so we show more emotion.
Figure skaters from St. Petersburg - Sofia Diana Kasins - Alexander Bregey are in third place after the short program, with a personal best of the season. Athletes of the "Tamara Moskvina Figure Skating Sports Club" skated cleanly in the final. Death spiral, step sequence, spin - level three, other non-jumping elements - level four.
Breguey: I think we did everything well, it was a good run, but we were a little off our feet, but we dealt with it. We were a little tired, since there had been many starts. I think we dealt with the nerves, we did it many times.
— You debuted this season at serious junior competitions – the Grand Prix stages, the championship, and qualified for the final. The season turned out to be intense, is that a plus?
Kasins: More of a plus than a minus. It’s better to skate and compete more than to compete in two or three competitions and not do very well at the most important ones.
Breguet: It's a good experience for us.
The winners of the Russian Championship Polina Shesheleva – Egor Karnaukhov after the short program in Kaluga are fourth – 65.59 points. The students of Philip Tarasov occupied the same place after the first event in Saransk, which did not prevent them from skating the free program cleanly.
In the final, the athletes started the performance confidently - they made a twist to the fourth level, jumped a double axel, coped with the support and throw - a triple salchow. But they did not get the levels on the death spiral - the third and the track - the second. The final rotation was performed on the fourth level.
Kira Domozhirova – Ilya Vegera are in fifth place – 63.92. For this performance of the short program at the junior final in Kaluga, the students of Pavel Slyusarenko, Egor Zakroev and Tatyana Tudvaseva can give themselves a “pass”. The fact is that at the Russian championship in Saransk the guys did not do well in the short program. Then they lost almost 11 points to their today’s result. Now the athletes pulled themselves together, did all the elements with pluses and skated the program so that they themselves enjoyed it.
Another Perm pair, Maya Shegay and Andrey Shaderkov, round out the top six with 61.27 points. In the final, the athletes made a mistake on the throw – triple salchow, but coped with the rest of the elements.
The short program of Pavel Sliusarenko's students is very successful. And they skate it at all starts quite confidently. Let us recall that Maya and Andrey became a pair only before the beginning of this season.
