Victoria Sinitsina - Nikita Katsalapov won the Grand Prix in Sochi and reached the final

World and European champions Victoria Sinitsina - Nikita Katsalapov won gold at the sixth stage of the Grand Prix series in Sochi and reached the final, scoring 211.72 points for two programs. Italy's Charlene Guignard- Marco Fabbri became silver medalists (203.71), which also guaranteed them a "ticket" to the final round of the tournament in Osaka. Bronze went to Canadian duo Laurence Fournier-Baudry and Nicolai Sorensen (191.40).

Russians Anastasia Skoptsova - Kirill Aleshin finished the Grand Prix in 6th place (180.93), Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva - Egor Bazin finished 8th (177.51).

Victoria Sinitsina – Nikita Katsalapov in the

free dance to the music of Sergei Rachmaninov received the fourth levels for support, track, twizzles and combined rotation. But, unfortunately, it was not without flaws - Nikita lost his balance at the exit from support. In addition, the skaters did not score two points for the "overexposed" two supports. Nevertheless, the students of Alexander Zhulin scored 124.91 points for the free dance and in total 211.72 points, won the second victory in the Grand Prix series, which ensured their place in the final.

"Today Nikita and I made a small mistake. We know this, we understand it, but before the Grand Prix final there is time to clean everything up and go there with a great mood," Victoria said.

"No one expected this mistake. I, on the other hand, wanted to put Vika with support more gently, better control and perhaps overdid it. The first time this happened on this element, so everything is fixable. But about two "didaxens" for overexposed supports is worth thinking about and working on. We were told this by the coaches in the morning at training, and during the rental I counted everything, but it did not work out. I'm personally unhappy with today's rental, but it's also an experience. We are not going to be upset, we have a work plan, we will move on. Many things turned out better today than at the stage in Japan, but before the Olympic Games there is still a lot of work to be done on the programs," Nikita added.

Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri performed their program perfectly to the music of "Atonement", showing beautiful supports and soft skating. Four elements were rated at the fourth level, two at the third level. Multiple champions of Italy came close to the Russians in the free dance, scoring 124.15 points. But in the end they became the second with a total of 203.71 points.

"Today it was unexpectedly easy to ride. We felt a little tired at these competitions, but today we skated easily. It was our best free skate this season, which gives us a good mood before the final. We are proud that we have qualified, we will compete in the Grand Prix final, because in this Olympic season all the best couples participated in the Grand Prix series," commented Marco Fabbri.

Laurence Fournier-Baudry and Nikolai Sorensen received fourth levels for spins and twizzles, scored 115.01 points and 191.40 in total, becoming third at the Sochi Grand Prix.

"We are very pleased with our performance today. We participated in the first and last stage of the Grand Prix, so we really tried to improve our rides, and we are satisfied with the result. We were high, - Nikolai admitted. "But the price of a small mistake at the end of the ride was more than we would have liked – our choreographic support turned out to be prolonged."

Anastasia Skoptsova - Kirill Aleshin confidently rolled out their program "Romeo and Juliet" and received the fourth levels for four elements. Muscovites took sixth place with a score of 180.93 points.

"Many thanks to our coaching staff. I will not get tired of thanking our directors, Ilya Averbukh and Elena Maslennikova, for the amazing free dance, which Kirill and I love and feel very much with our souls. Every time we hear this music, it gets goosebumps. We feel that the program looks more and more confident with each start, and it becomes more comfortable for us to roll it, "Nastya admitted.

The athlete also commented on the situation with the grading, which, due to a malfunction in the system, had to wait a little longer than usual.

"When we rolled back, we were very happy with our rental. For us, assessments did not play a primary role. This is no longer our task, we have done our job and just waited for the verdict of the judges," she said.

Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva - Egor Bazin returned to last year's dance "Experienc" to the music of the Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi. The skaters skated cleanly, but got a second level for the track. According to the free program, the athletes became 7th, but finished the tournament in 8th place.

"We are very happy that we performed in Sochi, because we got the third home quota at this stage. We are glad that we did not disappoint and enjoy the opportunity to skate at such a big tournament, with worthy opponents and a great audience," Egor said.

The athlete added that before the russian championship, they most likely will not have competitions. The Grand Prix stage in Sochi was the fifth start of the season for the couple.
