Mehmet Uvez appointed new head of EBRD’s Ankara office

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Mehmet Uvez to lead its office in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Mr Uvez will manage the Bank’s partnership with the government of Turkey, as well as its interactions with Ankara-based international financial institutions, diplomatic missions and civil-society organisations. He will oversee the Bank’s extensive policy work in various sectors and manage the operations of the Ankara office. He takes over from Baris Dincer, who is leaving the EBRD.

Mr Uvez, a Turkish national, joined the EBRD in 2015. Most recently, he

has been a Principal Inclusion Specialist with the Ankara-based Gender and Economic Inclusion team. He has more than 20 years of experience working in the public sector, international organisations and financial institutions. He holds an MBA from the William E. Simon School of Business and an undergraduate degree in business from the Faculty of Political Sciences, Ankara University.

Mr Uvez will take up his new position in January 2022, following his introduction to the Turkish authorities during a visit by EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso to Turkey on 7-9 November 2021.
