EBRD and partners welcome establishment of Ukraine’s Ethics Council

Joint statement of the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, the United Nations Development Programme and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the establishment of the Ethics Council to the High Council of Justice.

As Ukraine’s international partners supporting the judicial reforms in Ukraine, we welcome today’s establishment of the Ethics Council by law.

The Ethics Council will undertake an important task of reviewing the integrity of

the High Council of Justice members – the highest judicial governance body in Ukraine.

The establishment of the Ethics Council is an important step of the Judicial Reform Strategy approved by the President of Ukraine in June 2021 and it is also required by the Law on the Reform of the High Council of Justice passed by the Verkhovna Rada in July 2021.
