NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana spoke at a ceremony today (27 January 2022) to commemorate the 77th International Holocaust Remembrance Day at NATO headquarters.
The Deputy Secretary General paid tribute to the millions who suffered and died in the most horrendous conditions in concentration camps. He underlined that thanks to NATO, generations of people have grown up in Europe with peace.
Today’s ceremony was hosted by the Italian, Polish and Bulgarian delegations to NATO, in partnership with World Jewish Congress. An art exhibition featuring 18 drawings by Jozef Richter, depicting the persecution and extermination of Jews in the Lublin region of Poland from 1942-44, and the life of Witold Pilecki, a resistance leader who escaped from Auschwitz was on display. A short trailer of the Bulgarian movie “Beyond Hitler’s Grasp” was also screened during the ceremony.
