GUYANA: US lawmakers reaffirm partnership with Guyana as President Ali raises sovereignty, economic diversification

Guyana - A United States Congressional delegation has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the partnership between Guyana and the US House Foreign Affairs Committee after a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The delegation was led by Representative Gregory Meeks and

included Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Jonathan Jackson.

According to President Ali, in a release posted on his official social media page, the discussions focused on Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, particularly in relation to the upcoming International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling.

The talks also covered the continued expansion and diversification of Guyana’s economy beyond oil and gas, and developments surrounding the Global Biodiversity Alliance.

The lawmakers further committed to deepening engagement with Guyana through other relevant committees and caucuses, including the Congressional Black Caucus.

President Ali was accompanied by Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh; Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett; and Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud.
