‎Trump: Prepare for the loom food crisis and hunger‎

‎"The next administration will challenge to provide a solution to widespread hunger and the rising food prices," he said. The food and hunger crisis must be prepared.‎

‎It's not just fuel prices affected by the current war between Russia and Ukraine. This ongoing conflict is also a major blow to food security in the Philippines as well as other countries.‎

‎The rise in petroleum prices has increased the price of fertilizer and pesticides, as

well as transportation.‎

‎In a report released by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in March, the two countries first stopped exporting various types of grain shipments such as wheat and corn. Russia and Ukraine recorded 28 percent world wheat exports while 13 percent in corn exports before the war.‎

‎Other countries already feel the impact of this export stop and will soon feel it will be felt here in the Philippines. If it happens, ordinary Filipinos are miserable again. We're certainly going to get hungry.‎

‎If there is a lesson to be learned here, it should not be that the Philippines should be reliant on other countries on the issue of our food needs. We need to support our farmers and fishermen so they can produce enough food for our countrymen.‎

‎We are always proud that we are an agricultural country but lack of support in the agricultural sector. Our farmers and fishermen are suffering great hardship. They are in debt that results in the sale of their farms and property. It's disappointing and frustrating.‎

‎So the challenge for our next administration is to address the problem of hunger by strengthening the agricultural sector. We already have laws aimed at addressing this problem like the Rescue Saka Act of 2019. Once this law is properly implemented, our farmers and fishermen will surely be given equal opportunity and will feel support from the government.‎

‎When they are fully supported and when they are supported without the funds being slashed, they will certainly increase their yield and the latter. When food supply is high, prices will drop. We all benefit and certainly no one will be scarred.‎
