New York. Little did he know that one day he would develop an online teaching platform that could benefit online instructors and creators around the world and give him the opportunity to spend more time with family in his hometown of Guatemala.

The idea for the online event registration and teaching platform, My Walrus App, was born early in the pandemic, when many restaurants and bars had to close. One night, Alejandro and a good friend, a marketing expert and strategist with over 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, were discussing what they could do to help culinary professionals in those difficult times and what the future of the hotel sector would look like.

Realizing that many of their friends, seasoned chefs, and restaurant owners, had the culinary/personal skills, but probably not the technical expertise to succeed in a world that was expanding more and more on the Internet, they began to design a teaching platform to teach cooking classes online.

The My Walrus App was created intuitively and easily to use, and to offer different ways to manage an online culinary class from start to finish. From creating a simple homepage promoting events, to handling participant registration, sending confirmations and reminders via email, optioning multiple camera angles, step-by-step instructions, and engaging a live audience during the event, to collecting participant feedback and details of sales reports. This platform would cover everything. And it does.

Today, My Walrus App is working with online instructors from all over the world and has diversified from the culinary industry to other industries, such as yoga, languages, arts and crafts, music, and more. However, it maintains the main idea of offering an easy-to-use all-in-one platform where people's skills can be shared with the online world. No matter what a person's craft or talent is, My Walrus App is the platform through which unique skills can be shared in an unlimited, connected world.

The popularity of online classes and virtual events will continue to grow over the next few years for the convenience it represents. Who doesn't like to take a yoga or cooking class from the comfort of their home, instead of hanging out in traffic for an hour and spending large sums of money on gas?

By forming a team that includes many Guatemalan citizens, like him, the shift from the English-speaking to the Spanish-speaking market was only a matter of time for My Walrus

Currently, My Walrus App is expanding to Guatemala and other Spanish-speaking countries, while many of the largest stakeholders in the online education market continue to focus exclusively on the U.S. and Canada as their target markets.
