Diplomatic Advisor Andrea Canepari awarded the Honorary Degree of the American University of Rome (AUR)

AUR is proud to announce that the recipient of its Laurea Honoris Causa 2022 will be the Italian diplomat, author and promoter of Italian culture.

ROME, LAZIO, ITALY, May 26, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Councillor Canepari will be awarded by the University on the occasion of the annual graduation ceremony, which will be held on the evening of May 26 at Villa Aurelia in Rome.

The Rector of the American University of Rome Scott Sprenger, in announcing the

appointment, made the following statement:

"The University is pleased to be able to publicly recognize the significant contribution of Councilor Canepari to Italian-American cooperation and his tireless promotion of Italian life and culture in the world. Counsellor Canepari, both in his diplomatic roles and in his influential publications, testifies to the depth and breadth of relations between the USA and Italy – an instance that is the founding value of what the AUR represents".

Andrea Canepari was Ambassador of Italy to the Dominican Republic from 2017 to 2021. In 2017 he reopened the Embassy of Italy, inaugurating a new Diplomatic Chancellery and a new Residence, resuming political, cultural and economic relations. Between 2018 and 2021 it promoted three cultural years with hundreds of events in collaboration with institutions, companies, universities and local cultural centers to celebrate and highlight the significant common history that Italy and the Dominican Republic share, creating new opportunities for present and future collaboration.

From 2013 to 2017, Councillor Canepari was Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with consular authority for the States of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. He has received numerous awards and over 200 mentions in the press, radio and television. In 2016 he received the biennial "Global Philadelphia Award" from Temple University, awarded to those who stand out for their commitment to the development of the international relations of the city of Philadelphia. He has served on numerous committees and commissions, including the Papal Event Committee (on the occasion of the Pope's visit to Philadelphia in September 2015); the Presidential Advisory Committee of Jefferson University, which facilitated the creation of the first medical degree recognized in both Italy and the United States; and the International Advisory Board of the IUSS University of Pavia, Italy.

From 2006 to 2010 he was First Secretary for Political Affairs and Relations with the United States Congress at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C. From 2002 to 2006 he was Head of the Economic and Commercial Office at the Embassy of Italy in Ankara.

Among the international decorations of the Councillor Canepari are that of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, Knight of Magistral Grace of the Order of Malta, the Grand Cross with Silver Star of the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella and the Medal to the CSDP Service of EUFOR Libya for Planning and Support, conferred by the European Union. Councillor Canepari holds a bachelor's and master's degree in economics from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy) and a law degree from the University of Parma. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Full Scholarship from the "Gianani Foundation" (awarded annually by the Italian Banking Association to a scholar par excellence academic).

He is the editor of the book The Italian Legacy in Washington D.C.: Architecture, Design, Art, and Culture, published by Skira in 2008, and of the book The Italian Legacy in Philadelphia: History, Culture, People, and Ideas, published by Temple University Press in 2021; he is also editor of the volume The Italian Legacy in the Dominican Republic: History, Architecture, Economics, and Society, published in 2021 by St. Joseph University Press for the English edition and by Umberto Allemandi for the Italian and Spanish editions.

Councillor Canepari will present his latest publication, The Italian Legacy in Philadelphia, in an event open to the public at the Center for American Studies, on May 25 at 11.30 am.
