ITALY: Thomas Bach visits Casa Italia in Cortina: "What a thrill the Opening Ceremony"
The Honorary President of the IOC, Thomas Bach, visited Casa Italia in Cortina d'Ampezzo this afternoon. Accompanied by his wife Claudia and guided by the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Communication and Ceremonial, Danilo di Tommaso, Bach (photo Giuseppe Giugliano/CONI) was able to get to know the spaces of the structure up close and then dined at the Casa Italia restaurant, housed in the Farsetti Gallery. The former number 1 of the International Olympic Committee, in office from September 2013 to June 2025, praised the Opening Ceremony that yesterday officially inaugurated the Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games, awarded to Italy under his mandate, in 2019: "It was a great emotion to see all the efforts put in place bear fruit and show that seven years ago we had made the right choice. The ceremony was simply splendid and represented Italy in its best guise, with its culture, its colors, its passion," said Bach who followed the curling competitions in Cortina during the day and will do the same tomorrow on the occasion of the women's downhill alpine skiing, scheduled for 11:30 am, and the men's single luge, at the start with the decisive heats at 17:00, and then return to Milan.
