MARRAKECH, MOROCCO, December 10, 2024 / EINPresswire.com / -- Organized by the Federation of the Mineral Industry of Morocco (FDIM) and AME Trade Ltd, with the support of the highest authorities, including the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investments and Exports, the International Mining Congress in Morocco took place in Marrakech from December 3 to 5, 2024.
Under the theme "Morocco as a hub for a sustainable mining industry
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, shared her vision of making Morocco a model and leader in responsible mining and regional collaboration. She was surrounded by ministerial delegations from several African countries, including Colonel Ousmane ABARCHI, Minister of Mines of Niger, Mr. William Sebo HINES, Vice-Minister of Mines and Energy of Liberia, Mr. Ahmed Salem BOUHEDA, Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines and Industry of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and Mr. Basile Kanon ADJO, Secretary General of Energy, Water and Mines of the Republic of Benin. These senior officials unanimously welcomed Morocco's progress in the mining sector, positioning it as a model of governance and development and expressed their openness to collaborate, both at the governmental and private levels, to position Africa in the global value chain of the energy transition.
The congress brought together more than 500 participants, mining industry professionals, decision-makers and potential partners.
Relevant discussions by more than 60 renowned speakers from Morocco and abroad marked this congress and focused on topics as important as the Moroccan mining industry on the international scene, the role of the industry in reviving the economy and strengthening industrial sovereignty, the strategic positioning of critical minerals for the global energy transition, the development of a strong, sustainable and responsible mining sector, the integration of ESG requirements focused on social and environmental protection, and the development of future talents to meet the challenges of an innovative and sustainable mining industry.
The panelists stressed the importance of developing a sustainable mining industry while respecting the interests and development of communities, and recommended the adoption of operating models that respect the environment and the development of local communities, the integration of solutions for recycling water, energy and waste, the adaptation of laws and regulations to ensure strict environmental protection, while remaining attractive to investors in the mining sector and continuing to develop human capital that will meet all the future requirements of an efficient and sustainable mining industry.
The congress was also an opportunity to formalize three important partnership agreements, notably between CMT and INEE, between FDIM and the Fédération de la Chimie et de la Parachimie (FCP) and between FDIM and the Fédération Nationale de l'Electricité, de l'électronique et des énergies renouvelables (FENELEC).
The event concluded with technical visits to leading sites, including the Managem Group’s Guemassa Industrial Complex, the OCP Group’s Benguerir mining site, and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), an African center of excellence in research and innovation.
