Elena Micheli finishes third in Budapest: first podium of the season in the World Cup

Elena Micheli gets on the podium in the third stage of the Modern Pentathlon World Cup.

At the facilities of the University of Public Service in Budapest (Hungary), in fact, the two-time world champion placed third at the end of the women's individual final.

The Italian (FIPM photo), after passing the qualifiers and winning her semi-final,

finished her race with an overall score of 1417, finishing behind Mariya Gnedtchik (1435 points), at the start as a neutral individual athlete, and the South Korean Seungmin Seon (1427 points).

For Micheli, winner of the World Cup in Ankara (Turkey) in 2023, where she secured an individual pass for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, this is the first podium of the season on the top circuit.

"I felt good, I'm fully back from the injury and I'm very happy because we worked well to recover from this small problem I had at the beginning of the season. It was an uphill race after a fencing that was a bit more difficult than usual and that risked compromising me, but luckily with a good riding test, a standard swim and a good laser run I felt very comfortable. I felt a feeling of full control and I really liked that," said the Italian after the race.

Seventh place, on the other hand, in the men's individual final for Giorgio Malan, winner of the European Games in Krakow 2023 and also certain to fly to the transalpine Olympics. The overall score of 1498, in fact, was not enough to aspire to one of the three steps of the podium, the prerogative of the Egyptian Mohamed Elgendy (1511 points), the Hungarian Balazs Szep (1509 points) and the other Egyptian Mohanad Shaban (1503 points). (AGC)
