The first day of the finals at the European Rowing Championships ended with a balance of three medals for Italy.
In fact, in the waters of the Maty-ér basin, on the outskirts of the university
town of Szeged (Hungary), our country won gold in the men's men's coxed four, silver in the men's lightweight double and bronze in the women's lightweight double.A good show of strength for the quartet composed of Nicolò Carucci, Andrea Panizza, Luca Chiumento and Giacomo Gentili (photo Canottaggio.org/Mimmo Perna), who dictated the law from the first rows, managing to close with a time of 06.03.93 and putting behind both the Switzerland of Dominic Concreau, Jan Jonah Plock, Scott Baerlocher and Maurin Lange (+0.73) and the Poland of Domink Czaja, Mateusz Biskup, Miroslaw Zietarski, Fabian Baranski (+1.40).
Second step of the podium, on the other hand, for Stefano Oppo and Gabriel Soares, penalized by a slow start to the race and who paid a delay of +2.27 compared to the Swiss Jan Schaeuble and Raphael Ahumada Ireland (06:47:56). The Italian boat, however, in the last meters managed to successfully fend off the final assault put in place by the Norwegians Lars Benske and Ask Jarl Tjoem (+2.50).
Decidedly encouraging signs, finally, of the recently formed tandem composed of Valentina Rodini and Silvia Crosio, who managed to arrive among the best three crews in their first appearance. The success was the prerogative of Romania's Gianina Van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc (07:29.63), who finished ahead of Greece's Dimitra Eleni Kontou and Zoi Fitsiou (+2.31) and the Italian pair (+4.10).
