Italy: Party in Pinzolo, Trentino wins the 1st CONI Winter Trophy. Piedmont will host the 2023 edition

Trentino is the winner of the first edition of the CONI Winter 2022 Trophy. The Committee directed by Paola Mora makes the most of the 'field factor' and writes its name in the roll of honour of the winter edition of the most important multi-sport event under 14 in Italy, hosted in Trentino.

The girls and boys of the home Committee got the better of Piedmont, surpassing them only for the number of disciplines on the podium (11 against 9) after collecting 30 points each. Lombardy is third with 28 points (here the complete ranking). To announce the ranking during

the closing ceremony held in Pinzolo, in Piazza Carera, was Cecilia d'Angelo, head of Territory and Promotion of CONI.

"It was a great first edition of the CONI Winter Trophy - acknowledged the Vice President of CONI, Claudia Giordani - Thanks to you girls and boys protagonists of this wonderful experience. This is one of the most important projects of CONI because it gives value to the presence of the Committee throughout the Italian territory. It's a truly winning formula. My hope is that you can treasure this experience and also look at our Olympics with a greater sense of respect and desire for the five circles and the Tricolor. Thanks to Trentino and to all the authorities, to Cecilia D'Angelo and Paola Mora and thanks to all the Presidents of the Committees".

"Happy return home, I thank all the sports associations, the presidents of FISG and FISI, the Autonomous Province of Trento and all the volunteers. Happy CONI Trophy and happy Christmas holidays", said Paola Mora to the young people about to return home during the closing ceremony.

The Trophy saw 800 athletes compete representing 17 regional delegations who competed in the various disciplines staged in 8 Trentino locations.

"On Friday we had a grand inauguration – underlined the councilor for sport of the Province of Trento, Roberto Failoni -. We were all tense about an event we were doing for the first time. And with great pride we can say 'Mission concluded'. Thanks to everyone, thanks guys, we hope you were well. Many thanks then to CONI who believed in us and gave us this opportunity. I think we didn't disappoint."

"I share mission accomplished – said the Mayor of Pinzolo, Michele Cereghini -, a three days full of emotions and satisfactions. I thank Paola Mora and the National CONI with Vice-President Claudia Giordani. Sport is a combination of many things, I thank all the committees, the children and their families. In this event, sport really won."

At the end of the ceremony there was the handover with Piedmont, with the flag of CONI and the torch that passed from the hands of the President of CONI Trento, Paola Mora to that of CONI Piemonte, Stefano Mossino.
