Switzerland, November 2024 – The EU Fab 6 project road shows brought the best of European winemaking traditions to Switzerland, offering an immersive journey through the

famous Cadillac vineyards and the Garnacha regions of Spain. The events, held at the iconic FIFA Museum in Zurich and the prestigious Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva, included exclusive tastings with producers and over 100 wine professionals, including sommeliers, journalists, importers and consultants.

The collaboration between the regions of origin of the Garnacha PDO (which includes the Campo de Borja, Calatayud, Cariñena and Terra Alta PDOs) and the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux region (with the Bordeaux, Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux, Côtes de Bordeaux PDOs and the famous late harvest wines Loupiac and Cadillac) has highlighted the diversity and excellence of labelled European wines promoted under the European Union’s quality schemes. While maintaining their own identity, these regions share a commitment to winemaking tradition, sustainability and quality, underlining Europe’s leadership in the global wine market.

Garnacha, one of the oldest and most versatile grape varieties, originates from Spain, and more specifically from the Aragon region. It is historically linked to the ancient Crown of Aragon, whose territories stretched from northeastern Spain to southeastern France, as well as Sardinia. Renowned for its resistance to dry climates, Garnacha is used in a wide range of quality wines, including full-bodied reds and delicate rosés, and is prized for its environmentally friendly characteristics.
The Premières Côtes de Bordeaux region represents centuries of perfected know-how, and brings together terroirs that produce elegant and balanced wines, in its image.
Together, these regions are a testament to the richness and diversity of European viticulture, bringing together family estates steeped in tradition and cooperatives representing thousands of winemakers, offering an exceptional variety of wines and a significant concentration of historic vineyards throughout Europe.

Each event began with a presentation of the project “The EU Fab 6 – Savor PDO and PGI wines and deli meats from Europe” and the meaning of the Protected Designation of Origin label, led by Carolina de Funes, Head of Asociación Garnacha Origen, and Emma Baudry, Head of Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and Cadillac. Participants were then able to discover up to 64 different wines from the PDOs presented during a touring tasting.

These events were a unique opportunity to interact directly with producers, discover the stories behind the labels and deepen our understanding of the heritage, terroirs and know-how that characterize these famous wines. These face-to-face exchanges created a unique environment to build important connections and fully understand the essence of European viticulture.

The luxurious Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva and the FIFA Museum in Zurich provided the perfect setting for these prestigious events, in line with Switzerland’s reputation as a key market for premium European wines. Co-funded by the European Union, The EU Fab 6 aims to promote the excellence of PDO and PGI labelled products in two key markets: the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The latter are characterised by increasingly sophisticated consumers and a growing demand for high-quality certified food products.

Over the next three years, a wide range of activities will be organised, including training events, tastings in wine shops and specialist stores, and an innovative sound marketing campaign, which will allow consumers to discover the unique characteristics of the charcuterie and wine products of the participating consortia:
