USA and Canada strike gold as ISU Junior Grand Prix continues in Courchevel
Skaters from the USA and Canada collected the gold medals as the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2021/22 continued with the second event in Courchevel (FRA). Isabeau Levito (USA), Wesley Chiu (CAN) and Oona Brown/Gage Brown (USA) claimed the titles. The event was originally to take place in Edmonton (CAN) but moved to Courchevel. All three champions celebrated their first victory at the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating.

It was an action packed day of racing on Sunday in Most which saw Norbert Kiss take an utterly dominant win in the first race of the day, while his championship rival Sascha Lenz claimed victory in race 4.

The drivers raced off as the lights went, out and Norbert Kiss went straight into attack mode with pole-sitter Jochen Hahn and took over the lead in turn two. Kiss disappeared into the distance, widening the gap lap after lap. The Hungarian raced with an incredible pace, 2 seconds faster than anyone else on the track. He took the chequered flag 21 seconds clear of the rest of the field.

British para triathlon super star Lauren Steadman showcased a powerful performance in Odaiba Bay, on Paralympic Super Sunday, to claim victory in the Women's PTS5 race, an event that saw America's 2016 Paralympic Para Triathlon champion Grace Norman finish with the silver medal, while another British para triathlete, Claire Cashmore, managed to maintain third place, after a complicated race in which she lost time due to a penalty.

Martin Schulz retains Paralympic Para Triathlon title in Tokyo

German Paralympian Martin Schulz produced the run of his life to earn the victory, in the Men's PTS5 race, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the same Para Triathlon medal that he was awarded five years ago in Rio 2016. Along with him on the podium was British para triathlete George Peasgood and Rio 2016 silver medallist Stefan Daniel of Canada.

Dutch Para triathlete Jetze Plat knew he was the one to beat in Tokyo. Barely undefeated in his career, he is a force of nature. Paralympic gold in Rio 2016, five-times World Champion and after another display of magnificent form, he stormed the PTWC Men’s field to claim his second Paralympic gold in Tokyo. Austrian Florian Brungraber finished in the second place, while Italian Giovanni Achenza grabbed the bronze medal, the same one he got in Rio five years ago.

Norbert Kiss beat Sascha Lenz to the win in race 1 at Most, with local hero Adam Lacko completing the podium in third.

Race 2 saw a dramatic last lap, where Norbert Kiss overtook race leader André Kursim and crossed the finish line ahead of the German. However the Hungarian driver was handed a 10-second penalty after the race for pushing Kursim, which put him back into third place.

American para triathlete Alysa Seely (USA) has been dominating the PTS2 class for several years, and she proved that in Tokyo as well. In a hot and humid morning in Odaiba Bay, she wrote her name on the history books displaying a powerful run to cross the finish line first of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games PTS2 class to become the first woman to ever win two consecutive gold medals -Rio 2016 & Tokyo 2020- in Para triathlon. Behind her, her teammate Hailey Danz claimed silver and Italian Veronica Yoko Plebani finished in third place.

Undefeated all season long. Three times World Champion. Three times European Champion. And now the magnificent French Alexis Hanquinquant has a new title to add to his extensive collection: Paralympic Champion in the PTS4 class at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Second on the finish line today in Odayba Bay was Japanese hero Hideki Uda, first time that his country earns a medal in Para Triathlon, while Spaniard Alejandro Sanchez Palomero claimed bronze.

Back in Rio 2016, Spanish young doctor and blind para triathlete Susana Rodriguez crossed the finish line in 5th place, and promised herself that she will do better in Tokyo. And today she delivered. Only a month after making it to the front cover of Time magazine for her dual work as a professional athlete preparing to compete in two events -para triathlon and para athletics- in Tokyo and fighting the pandemic at the hospital where she works, Rodriguez and her guide Sara Loehr just became the Tokyo 2020 PTVI Paralympic champion. Italian Anna Barbaro (and guide Charlotte Bonin) finished second and Annouk Curzillat and guide Celine Busrez (France) in third place.
